The word “aroma” means
spice or more broadly fragrance and “therapy”
refers to treatment, therefore aromatherapy literally means curative treatment by the use of scent or essential oils. For the centuries it
has been known to humankind that therapeutic properties of
essential oils have various physical and psychological effects
on the body and mind. Aromatherapy helps to improve circulation,
relaxes aching muscles, stimulates the nervous system, and
promotes general well being.
There are two known ways by which
oils enter the body. First one happens through the nose via
olfactory system which is the integral part of the nose responsible
for the odor detection.
The second one happens through the skin or integumentary system.
The essential oils have a very low molecular weight and can
pass through the pores and hair follicles. They do not accumulate
in the body but are metabolized and excreted after specific period of time.
This process takes about 3 to 6 hours for a healthy body and
12 to 14 hours for an unhealthy body. Eventually the oils
reach the bloodstream affecting organs and bone structures and
circulate throughout the entire body.
Vita Flex Technique refers to ‘vitality through the reflexes’. It
is a specialized form of hand and foot massage that is effective
in delivering the benefits of essential oils throughout the
body. This particular technique is said to have originated in Tibet thousands of
years ago and it is based on a complex and interconnected network of reflex points
through which therapist has ability to stimulate the internal body systems. Oils are applied
to contact points and energy is released through electrical
impulses created by contact between the fingertips and reflex
points.
In contrast to the steady stimulation of Reflexology, Vita
Flex uses a rolling and releasing motion that involves placing
all four fingers flat on the skin, rolling onto fingertips,
and continuing over onto fingernail.
Raindrop Technique is a powerful, non-invasive tool for helping to correct defects
in the curvature of the spine. Raindrop Technique originated
from the research of D. Gary Young and a Lakota medicine man
in the 1970s. The principle essential oils used in Raindrop
Technique are: thyme, oregano, birch, cypress, peppermint,
basil, and marjoram. The oils are dispensed like little drops
of rain from the height of about six inches above the back
and massaged along the vertebrae. This technique is not a
cure-all, it is only one tool to help restore a balance in
the body that will result in good health.
